If you were to look up the word “hypocrisy” in an illustrated dictionary, the first definition would be a picture of the current crop of Democrats that hold the controlling majority in the House of Representatives.
The latest example of absolutely hypocritical behavior by congressional Democrats is their gung-ho attitude about holding Trump administration Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress, which stands in stark contrast to their overly-dramatic defense of Obama administration Attorney General Eric Holder when he was held in contempt of Congress by the Republican-controlled House in 2012.
First, it should be noted that there is a significant difference between these two cases of contempt.
Barr is being held in contempt for refusing to release a fully unredacted version of the Mueller report, including grand jury information, which he is expressly prohibited by law from doing.
Holder, on the other hand, was held in contempt for refusing to release relevant documents related to the Operation Fast and Furious ATF gun-walking scandal that allowed firearms to be illegally sold to Mexican drug cartels, at least one of which was used to murder U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.
The duplicitous duality of House Democrats was put together for a “SUPERcuts” compilation video by the Washington Free Beacon, and it truly lays their unmitigated hypocrisy bare for all to see.
The video began with Democratic House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler announcing that Barr would be held in contempt — for not breaking the law as Democrats had demanded. Right after that, however, the video quickly hit “rewind” and went back to 2012.
Then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said, “The Republicans have decided to go after this attorney general, and after him, who’s next?” The video then showed Democratic Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, who said on the House floor that the contempt resolution was “riddled with errors and motivated by partisan politics.”
Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff said, “To say that this is a terrible use of Congress’ power and time is an understatement.”
The video displayed a scene of a group of Democrats gathered in front of the Capitol building, some of whom called the contempt charge against Holder a “contrivance and connivance” and “something evil.” Democratic Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer said on the House floor at that time, “This is a sad day.”
One Democrat said into a bank of microphones, “This process is a travesty. It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.”
The video showed Cummings again, as he said, “This is about politics … let’s not kid ourselves.”
Switching back to the Capitol steps, a Democrat said the contempt charge against Holder was an attempt to “marginalize an attorney general who has done nothing but uphold the law.”
Back to Cummings once again, he said it was all “ridiculous” and nothing more than a “witch hunt” that was “very unfair to this attorney general.”
One Democrat decried the effort to “disgrace the sitting attorney general” while another asserted that “There shouldn’t be a political witch hunt,” and still another referred to the whole thing as a “political sideshow.”
Pelosi told reporters at the time that it was a “shameful display of abuse of power,” and Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters declared, “This has not been a legitimate investigation.”
The compilation concluded with a clip of Hoyer leading his fellow Democrats in a childish chant of “Shame on you” against their Republican colleagues.
For the umpteenth time, we have been witness to an incredible display of shameless hypocrisy and projection on the part of duplicitous Democrats, who ramped their rhetoric up to the max to defend Holder against a charge of contempt — only to turn around seven years later and do the exact same thing to Barr that they falsely accused Republicans of doing to Holder.
