As the left continue their inexorable push to denigrate and destroy the United States of America, the latest targets for manufactured racial outrage are the owners of National Basketball Association teams, and conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh is having none of it.
TMZ Sports recently reported that “multiple NBA teams” were engaged in discussions to do away with the term “owners” as the descriptive title of the person or people that own the various basketball teams, ostensibly due to “the idea that the term, owner — in a league where the majority of the players are black — feels racially insensitive.”
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green raised the argument back in 2017 while speaking with reporters.
“Just because someone was taught that 100 years ago doesn’t make that the right thing today,” he said. “And so, when you look at the word ‘owner,’ it really dates back to slavery. The word ‘owner,’ ‘master’ — it dates back to slavery … we just took the words and we continued to put it to use.”
Green brought the topic up again in 2018 on HBO’s “The Shop,” when he said “you shouldn’t say owner” when talking about team executives.
Two teams have already moved away from the term “owner” — the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers. The 76ers refer to team owners as “Managing Partners” and team co-owners as “Limited Partners” while the Clippers now refer to the team owner as “Chairman” on the team website.
It is worth noting that there is no push to do so from the league, which instead refers to team owners as “governors” who sit on the league’s “Board of Governors.”
If that sounds a bit overwrought and ridiculous to you — millionaire basketball players feeling like “slaves” because the person that pays them is referred to as an “owner” of the team — then fear not, for you are not alone.
Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh discussed the story on his Tuesday program, and said, “The insanity continues to pile up. The unbelievable, disbelievable continues to pile up.”
“You see, most of the players in the NBA (most, not all) are African-American, and they are making multiple millions of dollars a year,” Limbaugh said.
“And yet they apparently are feeling oppressed and nervous when the people that own the teams for which they play, the people that pay them, when they are called ‘owners’ it conjures up all of the fearful memories of the days of slavery that all of these players have escaped from,” he continued.
“Except, wait! Not one of them have ever been slaves,” Limbaugh added. “But I guess this is the latest attempt by the left to enforce the notion that America still is a slave state, that nothing has really changed about America. That America is, thus, unjust, illegitimate, and unqualified as a worldwide superpower.”
Limbaugh proceeded to explain how, in his view, this was little more than just the latest effort by the left to denigrate and destroy the “concept of American greatness and exceptionalism” in order to make way for the agenda to rebuild the nation as a socialist utopia with none of the nation’s “original sins” like slavery and racism.
“I cite these examples like this: Can’t call the owner of an NBA team an ‘owner’ because it makes the players, what? Feel like they’re slaves? You have to be trying to do all this,” Limbaugh said.
“You know, by itself, by itself it’s just a little humorous standalone item,” he added. “When you add it to all of the other things that the Democrat Party and the American left is attempting to do, it’s just the latest in a very concentrated effort to denigrate this country in the minds of as many people as possible.”
Later in the program, Limbaugh took a call from a listener with regard to the NBA “owners” story. That caller rightly noted, “The fact of the matter is, the players are employees. You know, so there’s no oppression there, and it’s part of a bigger problem that apparently the left has. They’re looking for oppression everywhere and they just can’t find (it).”
Limbaugh agreed with the caller’s valid point that, lacking much in the way of real oppression and racism, the left has resorted to making it up wherever possible to further the narrative that the USA is a horribly racist and oppressive country … where supposedly oppressed minorities can be paid millions upon millions of dollars to play a game on a professional level.
The caller suggested a special term was needed for this particular phenomenon and offered up “‘oppressturbation,’ the act of simulating oppression when you can’t get the real thing,” a term that really doesn’t need much further explanation.
It really is beyond absurd that multi-millionaire players — none of whom were ever slaves or are currently held in “bondage,” save for the lucrative contracts they willingly signed — would feign offense at the literal owner of their team being properly referred to as the “owner.”
Limbaugh is right to point out that this is just part of the broader effort on the left to utterly ruin the country we know and love with politically correct racial identitarianism and manufactured grievances.
